Voor AZ dreigen er ernstige problemen als de voetbalclub voor deze winterstop geen spelers verkoopt. AZ hoopt dat de DSB-curatoren ook meehelpen om problemen te voorkomen.

AZ stortte vijf miljoen euro terug aan de tegenwoordig bekende DSB-Bank, een week voordat de bank van Dirk Scheringa failliet ging, waardoor de lopende lening werd teruggebracht tot 14 miljoen euro. Het is volgens de leiding van AZ de oorzaak van het geldprobleem.
AZ overweegt nu zijn overbodige spelers te verkopen. Een andere mogelijkheid om de club te redden is dat AZ de aandelen van de curatoren terugkoopt voor 1 euro. AZ kan dan verder als stichting. Ook zou de helft van de schuld moeten worden kwijtgescholden.
